Smeared Ink's Gallery Challenge..."Digi Mania"

Every Monday Smeared Ink has a gallery challenge on its Design Team Blog, Smudgy Antics.  This week's theme is Digi Mania.  Only Smeared Ink Digi images could be used.  No rubber.  Submissions are taken through Friday at midnight (I believe Pacific time) so there is still time to submit a project.

Here is what I whipped up for the challenge:

I used Smeared Ink's "Glam Vamps" digi stamp set for my project and arranged the images in photoshop.  I then printed my composition onto Copic X-Press It cardstock and colored it with copic markers.  The background was originally going to be a wall, but somehow I forgot about that as I inked in a sky and earth with distress inks.  LOL!  Anyway, I still think it looks good and I hope that you do too!

If you are too late to participate this week, come back next Monday for the new challenge.
So, for those of you not familiar with the challenge, here is the low-down:
Every Monday Smeared Ink is offering you an exclusive chance to get your project (and blog) added to their sample gallery at Just use Smeared Ink Stamps on a project, link to it, and then rake in the votes. We will announce the winner on the following Monday. At the end of the month, the weekly challenge winners will be pitted against each other to determine the monthly winner. The monthly winner will receive a 25% off coupon!

Lola was printed on Copic X-press It cardstock and colored with copic markers.  I then scanned her to my pc and found a beach scene online.  The scene was originally a screen saver from, but I tweaked it slightly to fit my needs.  The picture is so vibrant I decided to leave it as is rather than adding a bunch of embellishments.

Smeared Ink Gallery and Sketch Challenge

Smeared Ink has several challenges each month with opportunities to win prizes.  They are a very open and supportive group of creative gals and guys.  I know they are one of the few groups I belong to that actually allow my type of art, which tends towards the dark, gothic, and erotic.  I have had work banned on two sites so far (pouts).   Sometimes I have cute and normal stuff as well...and the gals don't laugh at me when I post that stuff...even though it is out of character for me.  If you do any type of paper crafting, stamping, scrapbooking, art journaling, or mixed-media art, you should check out the Smeared and Smudged forum.  Anyone can participate in the challenges.  The only requirement is to use a stamped image somewhere in your project.

This week's gallery challenge is "anything goes".  The only requirement for this is to use a Smeared Ink stamped image somewhere on your project.  I will also be entering my project into the April Sketch Challenge on the forum.

Here is my offering:

The Smeared Ink image I used is "Aphrodite".  She is colored with copic markers.  My papers are digital from Crafty Chaos Designs.

Smeared and Smudged Member Blog Hop

Welcome to the monthly Smeared and Smudged member blog hop!  Our theme this month was to use metal in a project.  Easy, right?  Well, the metal couldn't be in the form of brads or eyelets.  I had such grand plans for this!  Unfortunately, I flaked and forgot about the hop until a night or two ago (blushes with embarrassment) and have worked late the past two days.  I must say I cheated a bit on this one, which is not common for me, but I ran out of time and wanted to at least post something (holds head down in shame).

Here is my offering:

I used an awesome zombie image drawn by artist James Garza.  He was kind enough to allow me to color yet another one of his wonderful creations.  Technically, I cheated twice.  I just realized I entered a project with line art and not a stamp, but heck...if I can resize it and received it in digital format can't it count as a digi stamp?  I know, I am pushing my limits.  Perhaps I won't flake next month.  I just REALLY wanted to color up this zombie as I LOVE it so!!!  I will be entering this in HDH's Macabre Monday as well.  Their challege this week is Zombie Apocalypse.  The zombie girl  is colored with copic markers and distress ink.  I couldn't figure out where to add metal on this without wrecking my project so I decided to make an altered  frame.  Now...remember how I flaked on the project until a day or two ago?  Don't ask me how I thought I'd finish my frame in time for the hop!  Being the digital age, I busted out photoshop and found a cool pic of a saw blade online.  I messed with it a bit so I could created a frame.  Sorry that I cheated, but time was not on my side this month.  I still dig the end result and hope that you do too!

Sugar Skull Love

Recently, I was searching the web for sugar skull designs to color for a HDH Macabre Monday challenge.  In my hunt, I came across the most awesome sugar skull design ever!  It was created by artist James Garza and can be seen on his blog.  I messaged James and asked if I could color his image for my project and he was kind enough to say yes!  Sadly, due to time constraints and having too many projects on my plate, I didn't finish my project in time for the challenge, but I had a blast coloring up this bad-boy anyway.  I printed the image for a total project size of 8.5" x 11" and colored it with my copic sketch markers and ranger distress inks. I botched the coloring in a few spots, but I still think it came out pretty fabulous.  I think I may make an even larger canvas of this image as I've been itching to get back into painting.  Be sure to check out James work on his blog link above.

What Does my Future Hold?

Welcome back!

It's Smeared Ink Saturday with Lady B!

Today I bring you a hybrid scrap page.  The papers and journaling are digital and the tarot images were stamped and colored with copic markers.  The stamp set I used is "The Morbidly Adorable Tarot" which is a Smeared Ink rubber stamp set designed by artist Misty Benson.  The stamp set can be purchased here.  You may have noticed that I don't have any photos on this page.  I think scrapbooking should incorporate thoughts, feelings, and memories...not just photos.  I think my stamped images convey my thoughts pretty well here.

I hope I've given you a different view of scrapbooking today.  For more inspiration, check out the Smeared Ink DT blog and the Smeared and Smudged Forum.  We'd love to have you!

HUGE SALE at SBS and the "Make your Best Rio Card" challenge

There is a huge sale at Simply Betty Stamps!  Check out the SBC blog for details!

(Click on the colored links to see the many different Rio images available)

Today we are challenging you to create your best Rio card... any Rio will do, Rio ZOMBIE, School Girl Rio, Summer Rio any Rio card anything goes... but if you want an added challenge make Black your main color, and throw in some skullies! Have fun Rio, she is after all quiet a fun gal! One lucky entry will win any Rio of her choice! So let's take a look at what the DT has prepared for you, then off you go to create you Rio project!!

Okay...I didn't exactly follow the rules.  With all of the gloomy weather we've been having in my area, I was in great need of bright, bold colors to perk me up!

I used Zombie Rio for my projects.  My hubby is a teacher and just finished his spring break.  Him going back to school inspired this card.  See...Zombies can make great back-to-school cards!

I used Copic X-press It cardstock and colored Rio with Copic markers.  I plan on making a zombie coloring tutorial soon so keep checking back for some Zombie tips.  I scanned Rio and sent her to the world of photoshop.  My goal for the New Year was to learn photoshop and it's a goal I've actually achieved!  I still have lots to learn, but usually I get frustrated and move on to something else.  Anyway, I used a few digi scrap kits from oscraps to create this card.  I am loving the digital stitching!  It looks so real and dimensional!

Which SBS Rio image is your favorite?  Come play along with Betty and the gals over at SBC!

HDH083 Magically Witchy

Today I bring you an all digital project for my submission to HDH Macabre Monday.

It didn't turn out as creepy as I would have wanted, but I think it's elegantly beautiful...if that's possible for a dead thing and a witch.  I really do like the end result and think I need to play more with digital stuff.

The witch and skeleton are images from Itkupilli as is the background.  The leaves and kettle are elements from a scrap kit I purchased at oscraps.
