Weekly Challenge, Release, and Blog Hop

Hey all!  It's Monday so that means it's time for another challenge over at Smudgy Antics

This week's challenge theme is Drop Dead Gorgeous!

Not only is there a cool challenge going on, but Smeared Ink has a NEW RELEASE going on as well as a blog hop.  Although I am posting early, the hop goes live Monday April 30th at 9 am PST.

For the challenge and the new release, I made a series of ATCs.  I kept the ATCs simple as I wanted the images to be the main focus.  I used 4 of the 5 images of the "Women of Power" digi set.  Everything was printed on Copic X-Press it cardstock and colored with Copic markers.  Yep, I went old skool.  No digi coloring today.  Heck, I almost forgot how to color with markers!  It felt good to get inky again!

Here are my ATCs:

Sorry for the blurry shots.  I had to use my cell phone and took the pic at night with horrible lighting.  Also, during assembly, I got inky fingerprints on 2 of my ATCs.  Oh, the Horror!  Luckily, a damp tissue removed most of the damage.

Later this week I will be displaying more projects with the Women of Power set as well as a project with one of the Milagros images.

Here is the hop list:

Me (Lady Brayton)

Two of our members will be sitting out of the hop as one is on holiday and the other has a terrible injury to her drawing and colouring hand.

Here are pics of the release:

Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge - RAIN DOWN ON ME

It's Monday so it's time for a new week of challenges!

The challenge theme for Smudgy Antics this week is

Smudgy Antics is asking its devoted followers to make a project using water.
You may interpret this anyway you want.

Here's a blurb from the blog:

"We love when you guys and gals think outside of the box.  You can use water colors, paint with distress inks and an aqua pen, use spray inks, etc.  Heck, you can even go full grunge on a project and set it out in the rain for a bit to get even grungier or soak your project in the sink or shower for a bit.  The more creative and inventive, the better!  If all that is too extreme, just use an image with water and have fun! "

Here is my take on the challenge:

The only water I used was the water in the picture.  The image is colored with Copic Markers.  I scanned the finished pic to my pc and printed it several times.  I fussy cut parts and glued layers with silicone glue for dimension.  All that hard work for nothing.  My camera didn't pick-up the dimension too well.  In real life it looks pretty cool.

Anyway, I decided my framed piece was not enough so I created this scrap page using the scrap sketch from Smeared and Smudged's "Very Sketchy" challenge.  The scrap page is all digital.  I may search for shells this summer and try to recreate this for a wall hanging.  Although this is not my typical style, I like the way it turned out.

Here is the sketch I used:

Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge - BINGO

It's Monday so that means it's challenge time!

This week's challenge at Smudgy Antics is BINGO.

Participants MUST use three in a row from the grid below.  You may get your three in a row up, down, across, or diagonally.

A Smeared Ink Stamps gift voucher is up for grabs!

For my creation I used embossing, skull, and metal.

I started with black cardstock and heat embossed a TH spider web with silver glitter embossing powder.  I then printed a skull from Smeared Ink's "Anatomy 101" digi set and printed it 6 times on white cardstock.  I fussy cut the skull and glued the layers with silicone glue for a dimensional effect and dipped the dried piece into melted UTEE for a glass effect.  I learned this technique from my friend, Black Dragon.  I mounted my wicked skull to the cardstock.

Now for the metal.  I used metal tape (you can buy this in the hardware store), stuck it to cardstock, and dry embossed it with my cuttlebug.  The first layer I painted black and wiped some off, then sealed with modpodge.  The second layer of metal was left bright and gleaming.  I further mounted this on more black cardstock and called it finished.

Head on over to Smudgy Antics for more inspiration by the Smeared Ink DT.

It's that time again.  Time for the Smeared and Smudged Member Blog Hop.  Above is the list of fabulous blogs to visit for this hop.  The hop goes live Friday 04/13/12 at 9am PST.  The theme for the hop is
"What are you scared of?"

I had a hard time with this which surprised me because I suffer from anxiety and have even had full blown panic attacks.  You would think there are thousands of things I'm afraid of.  Rather than thinking of the "What", I decided to think about the "Why".  Whenever I have a panic episode, I feel like I'm going to die which then makes the panic intensify.
I concluded that I must be afraid of death.

Here is my creation:

I used a fabulous image from Ike's Art
I colored the image digitally and added a border.
I decided to keep my project simple as I think the image speaks for itself.
This is my fear.  Death.
I have always felt like I will die young.  Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be true.  I am so afraid that I will die before I realize my dreams.  There is so much I want to do before I leave this Earth.

I read a quote that I like:
Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life!

Oh, The Horror!

I had some extra crafty time today and the mojo was flowing so I decided to play along with the "Oh, the Horror" challenge over at Smeared and Smudged.  The challenge is to make a project inspired by a horror movie.  The inspiration movie for April is Donnie Darko.  Here is what I came up with:

Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge - EGGstatic

It's time for another awesome challenge over at Smudgy Antics!

This week's theme is EGGstatic and we were challenged to decorate an egg.  Be sure to check out the Smudgy Antics blog to see what the DT gals have come up with.  For those too intimidated to decorate an egg, projects with eggs or egg shapes are also being accepted.

Here is my take on the challenge:

Yep, I made a mummy egg!

I used eyes from Smeared Ink's Anatomy 101 digi set and colored them with copic markers.  I used modpodge to attach the eyes  to my plastic egg.  I then ripped an old sheet into thin strips and wrapped several layers onto the egg with modpodge.  When dry, I inked the fabric with distress inks in walnut and black soot for an aged effect and then added a clean layer of fabric strips to my mummy egg for contrast.

I love the way my egg turned out!  Now I must figure out how to make a zombie egg!

Thanks for stopping by!

I will be entering my egg into the following challenges:

Art With no Boundaries: "the eyes have it" - I've used eyes on my project
Addicted to Stamps: "Spring/Easter, must use a stamp" - I made an easter egg with a digital stamp of eyes.
Paper Sundaes: "Easter" - I made an Easter Egg
The Cheerful Stamp Pad: "Anything Goes"
