In the Mood for Steampunk?

Recently, the RSD EDT received special Steampunk images drawn by Rick and we made projects with them to submit to "Just Steampunk" magazine for their volume 5 edition which comes out in August.  Many of the EDT will be featured in the upcoming edition.  I'm hoping everyone's piece/pieces have been accepted.  In honor of this, we are having our first progressive challenge on the Sparkle and Glitter Blog with the theme of Steampunk.  Click here and here to read more about the challenge.

I am still stuck in Steampunk mode so I thought I would share a new make of mine as a reminder for the Progressive Challenge which runs through May.

I used the image "Steampunk Peg" which was drawn by Rick St. Dennis and is available exclusively at I Brake for Stamps as a digital stamp.  Peg is colored with Copic markers and mounted upon a portion of a broken cell phone.  The combo was then mounted upon a 6" x 6" piece of wood which was given a special treatment for texture then painted with DecoArt Gesso in white, DecoArt Traditions Artistic Acrylics paints in Titanium White, Prussian Blue Hue, Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide and Quinacridone Gold.

I added some Tim Holtz gears which were dry embossed with Darice "Steampunk Gears" embossing folder and further textured with DecoArt Snow-Tex.  The paint on the gears is DecoArt Dazzling Metallics in Worn Penny.  I sealed the painted surfaces with DecoArt Decou-Page in Matte.

For my final touch I added a copper colored wire wrapped gem to the center of one of the gears.  I used silicone household glue to attach the gem.  Here is the brand of glue I used, but I didn't buy a case...just a single tube.  A little of this stuff goes a long way!

Be sure to play along with the Progressive Challenge on the Sparkle and Glitter blog.  If you need steampunk images, you can find them in Rick's Zibbet Shoppe as well as his Etsy Shoppe.  There is a challenge on Rick's Facebook page as well.

Cheers!
