Smeared and Smudged August Member Blog Hop

Blog Roll:

Lady Brayton ***you are here

It's that time again! Time for the Smeared and Smudged member blog hop. Our hop will be on THURSDAY, August 23rd. at 9:00 am (PST)

The theme is POE-ETIC! Since we're celebrating the great Edgar Allan Poe this month, I thought it would be awesome for our members to create something using one of his poems! It can be a canvas, a card, a scrapbook page, an altered item, an art journal page, etc. Use your imaginations. Also, don't forget the S&S rule that is has to be stamped somewhere (digi stamps are fine) – we love when you use Smeared Ink Stamps, but it is NOT a requirement to participate.

I made two very similar digital pieces, but couldn't decide which I liked best. My inspiration came from the poem "Annabel Lee". This is my favorite poem by Poe and I had all of these grand ideas on how to bring the poem to life. Of course neither project turned out the way I wanted, but such is life! Maybe I will draw my own Annabel Lee scene and paint it one day...but that will be far in the future when I have a lot more time on my side!

Here they are. Which do you like best? You can click the images to enlarge the pics.

Both of these have the poem written in the left hand side of the piece.  I used background pics that were taken on vacations.  I really wanted a pic with a rocky cliff by rough seas, but I've not visited a place such as that and I didn't feel like browsing the web for hours on end.  The stamps used are "Cross Tombstone" from Smeared Ink's "Build a Graveyard" digi set and one of the goddesses from Smeared Ink's "Elementals" set.  Sorry, I can't find the link for that one.  I colored the stamps digitally in PSE8.  I faded the woman to look ghostly.  Edgar is a pic I found on the net and I faded him out too.  Everything is assembled in PSE8 as well.

Thanks for stopping by! If I don't comment on Thursday, I will definitely be around on Friday to leave some love as that is my well-deserved day off this week! Cheers!

  6. Both of these are gorgeous. If I absolutely had to pick one it would be the second - it is just the little opening like a grotto; it is so evocative. It is great for me so see such stunning digital projects as I have been having play with Serif and these are very inspiring. Vee xx
