Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge: EMBELLISH IT!

It's time again for another challenge over at Smudgy Antics.
This week's theme is EMBELLISH IT.

We were asked to create a project using a stamped image (rubber, clear, or digital) and a minimum of 3 embellishments.  I must confess, I never quite know what to do with embellishments, where to place them, etc.  For that reason, I tend to make my projects along the clean and simple end of the spectrum.  Perhaps grungy, but still simple.

For this challenge I used the minimum amount of embellishments.
Here is my creation:

I made an ATC using Smeared Ink's freebie for the month of May.  Yep, participate in any challenge on the Smeared and Smudged Forum and you can get this awesome skull image for FREE.  When the month is over, this little guy will be added to the shop.

I made the background papers using Dylusions Spray Inks.  Love them!  After I had my background paper coated in ink and dried, I did the ghosting technique to lift areas of color.  Rather than using a stencil, I took a plastic bag and crumpled it up, spritzed it well with water, and did a rag rolling technique to spread the water in a splotchy fashion.  I dabbed the wet spots with paper towels and then dried the paper with my heat gun leaving lighter areas of ink.  You can see the ghosting in the upper left corner in the blue/green area.

Next I took my plastic bag, crumpled it into a ball, and spritzed red ink on it and did the rag rolling technique again.  Rather than taking away color like the ghosting technique, this added blotches of red in a random fashion.  This is demonstrated in the bottom right side of the paper.

Why did I use a plastic bag?  I wanted to see what it would do.  Also, on the Smeared and Smudged forum they have a "Junk Funk" challenge where members use items found around the house.  This month's item was plastic bags.  I'm going to submit my ATC into that challenge.

My image is colored with Copic markers.  I fussy cut the image and added it to the background paper.  I added some ribbon the the left side of the ATC, I added an aged golden key under the skull's teeth, and I added three of the tiniest gold gems I've ever seen to the upper right corner.

There you have it!  Head over to the Smudgy Antics blog to see what the rest of the DT has created for your viewing pleasure.  If you get a chance, head over to the Smeared and Smudged Forum and become a member.  Tell them Lady B sent you.  Then enter some challenges and get a skull freebie of your very own!

Speaking of skulls, Smeared and Smudged is hosting a blog hop for Skull Appreciation Day on June 4th.  If you want to participate you have until Thursday May 31st to sign-up.  Click this link for more information on Skull Appreciation Day.

Whew!
Sorry for the Book.
Have a great week!

Love what you've done with the background! Who would have thought to use a plastic bag like that...you are genius! I'm in the same "embellie" boat as you...I never know what to do with them or where to put them...it stinks! But I think this looks great, sometimes less is more!
    Love ya!
