The stamped image and sentiment are from Smeared Ink's "Monster Hearts" Digi set. This particular heart is "Sweetie Heart" and can be bought as a single. This set was drawn by Terra's daughter. Isn't she a talented lass?! I colored and assembled this whimsical image in PSE8.

I used the corpse from Smeared Ink's "Gross Anatomy" digi set as well as the hanging heart image and love sick sentiment from Smeared Ink's "Bloody Valentine" digi set. The vintage lady is an image from Itkupilli.

I actually merged the hand holding the heart to the lady's arm to make it appear as though she is pulling her dead lover's tiny little heart out of his chest. Perhaps in his next life the bastard won't cheat. Despite his transgressions, the poor lass still loves the gent. Sure, she may have killed him in a fit of rage, but she felt the need to preserve his heart so she may always keep it close to her own.

Challenge Time

I actually had some free time and have finally found my missing mojo. It's been a good day! In celebration, I decided to make a project to enter into some challenges.

Here's my creation:

Papers: Crafty Chaos Designs (Under a Blood Red Moon set)

Image and Sentiment: Smeared Ink's "My Bloody Valentine" Digi set

everything was colored and assembled digitally.

I am entering this into the following challenges:

Forever Night Challenges #25: color scheme black, white, grey, white as well as the theme "alternative girls".

I used the color scheme and have a goth-chic's hands holding a bloody heart. I hope it counts!

Smeared and Smudged's "Very Sketchy" challenge...I followed the scrapbook sketch.

CRAFT challenge...colour combo...I used the reds.

Digi Doodle Shop Challenges....love is in the air (I used Love sick senti with a hand holding a heart)

Pals Paper Arts (PPA128)...color challenge...any reds...I used a ton of red!

Sassy Studios Designs...Valentines (110)...I made an alternative VD card.

Outlawz Twisted Thursday...Valentine's/Love (TT020212)...Use pencils or other mediums of your choice. ONLY 50% or less of the project can use alcohol ink markers. My project is all digital. I hope it counts.

I made this wicked pendant.

Here is another view

I tried to get my cat to model the pendant. That didn't work so well.

My little bat was an okay substitute, but he is way too short to model.

I used my awesome Strange Skin Beetle (from the "buggin' out" set), colored him digitally in PSE8 and added him to an Itkupilli background. I printed this out onto glossy photo paper, squeezed out a touch of glossy accents onto the photo, then applied the plastic pendant directly to the glossy accent coated photo, making sure to press out any air bubbles. After it dried, I cut the excess photo paper off with an exacto knife and sealed the back of the photo with more glossy accents. I added a few beads and cording, and I had an awesome pendant!

Quoth the Raven meets Oh the Horror

It is time again for another tribute to the Master of the Macabre.

The challenge this fortnight at QTR was to create a piece in the image of the Master.

Here is my take on the challenge:

I used a portrait of the Master as well as a skull image and merged the two, thus showing the raw darkside of the Master. I used stamped imagery from Smeared Ink's "Quoth the Raven" digi stamp set and arranged this collage piece. I hope I have made the Master proud. I will also be entering this into the Smeared and Smudged "Oh, The Horror" challenge.

I used the Zombie Attack digi collection for my project. This was printed at 8.5x11, colored with copic markers, mounted onto 12x12 DCWV cardstock and papers, and shaded with Distress Inks. This baby is going in a frame to be displayed year round in my home. I heart zombies!

Here is another Strange Skin image from the Fangtastic Vampires collection. Once again colored with copic markers and distress inks. I used 7 gypsies pp and DCWV navy cardstock with this one.

Above and below are more of my favorite Strange Skin Zombies, both from the Zombie Attack collection.

On Strange Skin's etsy store, only the sets are listed, but if you convo Pam you can get any single image you want at the 50% discounted price as well. With prices so low, why not get the whole set? There's more! Not only is there a rockin' sale going on, but on February 1st Strange Skin will be releasing new images and sets! Get Lost- HDH 117

Ugh! I've been struggling with my mojo lately, but wanted dearly to play along with HDH MM this week. Hopefully I can come up with a better project later, but at least I managed to crank something out. We were challenged to use a map of some sort in our projects. While searching for maps of Hell, I found that there is a tiny town in Michigan with the name of Hell. I think the town has an inn, a bar, a post office, mini-golf, and an ice-cream shop. That's about it. Anyway, I chose to use the Hell, Michigan map and one of my favorite Delicious Doodles images.

Here is what I came up with:

The DD Devil was colored with copic markers and scanned to my pc. I found the map online. Everything is composed in PSE 8.

Smudgy Antics meets A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

The challenge at Smudgy Antics this week is masking. I choose to do a masking technique with my rubber stamps (Smeared Ink and Bombshell Stamps) and combined the challenge with three of the prompts over at A year in the life of an art journal.

THE PROMPT: Word
ie: along the lines of One Little Word, choose one word that embodies the way you want your year to be LIVED.
THE STUFF: Imagery
ie: Use images, clippings... all to create the FEELING of the word you choose.
THE TECHNIQUE: PAINT/DOODLE
ie: paint and doodle on your images to further create the emotion of your word.

I made a half journal page, although it more like a quarter sized journal page. My journal is going to have miss matched page sizes that I will add as I go. I used scrap paper to make this. My word for the year is fearless/fearlessly. When I read the prompt asking how I want to live my life...I want to life it fearlessly!

Imagery was the second part of the prompt. I used one of my Goddess rubber stamp from Smeared Ink"s "Elementals" stamp set and the Sacred Heart from Bombshell Stamps using a masking technique to apply the images to my white cardstock with Memento ink. I colored the images with copic markers and distressed the edges of my tiny journal page with Ranger distress inks. I then simply wrote a little phrase on the journal page using my word for the year and doodled a little heart (doodling or using paint was the third part of the prompt). The little starbursts are from Smeared Ink's "A Little Skelly Christmas" stamp set. (which sadly is no longer available).

Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge - Recycle Something

"Recycle Something".

I saved an empty bottle of mead because I loved the shape and color of the bottle and just knew I could use it for something. I swear, crafting is turning me into a hoarder! I save so many things that most would toss into the trash in hopes of using said items in my projects.

Anyway, I am a lover of Halloween and figured I might as well get started on some new decorations. Who am I kidding? A good majority of my Halloween collectibles stay out year round! I decided to turn the mead bottle into a potion bottle. I found a cool cave/dungeon pic online to use as the backdrop for my Zombie Serum label. The Zombie is from Smeared Ink's "Zombie Head Shot" digi stamp set. Everything is colored and assembled in PSE8. I printed the label out on adhesive glossy paper and stuck it on the bottle. I was debated whether or not to add some twine to the neck of the bottle. What do you think? Twine or no twine?

Painting with Perfect Pearls

Here is a quick and easy tutorial on painting with Ranger's Perfect Pearls.

This tutorial will be posted soon on the Smeared and Smudged Forum.

Supplies: Versa Mark or other embossing medium, Ranger Perfect Pearls in various colors, Black cardstock, embossing powder, rubber or clear stamp, paint brush, water, and heat tool.

The Versa Mark or embossing medium is what makes the embossing powder stick to the paper. It will go on clear, but glossy/sticky.

Although Versa Mark is clear, you will see a "watermark" of your stamped image. You may use other colors of cardstock, but the Perfect Pearls show up better on dark colors.

Apply a generous amount of embossing powder over your stamped image.

You can see how the embossing powder has stuck to the Versa Mark.

The excess embossing powder can be reused. I like to put the excess embossing powder back in the jar prior to heat setting to prevent blowing the embossing powder all over the room.

The nice thing about embossing your image prior to painting is that the embossing powder makes a raised outline that helps keep the paint mixture in place.

For making the paint mixture, I would not recommend using the lid of the Perfect Pearls jar as I did. Any moisture left in the cap prior to closing the jar will cause your Perfect Pearls to make a hard, dry clump. You can mix your Perfect Pearls and water on a water proof craft pad, a glass table, a plastic or glass plate, on a palette, etc. Just use whatever you have around the house.

A thinner mixture will yield a translucent look while a thicker mixture will be more opaque. Play around to achieve your desired effect. You can mix various colors of Perfect Pearls to create new colors.

I didn't include a step-by-step here in order to save space. Basically, use your Perfect Pearls and water mixture with a paint brush and get busy! Rinse your brush between colors. Also, when making your paint mixture, just make a little at a time as it goes a long way. I literally made a small to medium coin sized batch of paint mixture for the white above. I used just a drop for the lips and eyes, and 2-3 drops of water mixed with blue perfect pearls for the shirt. The above image is Lonely Boy from Smeared Ink.

I mixed a bronze perfect pearls (pp) with white pp to achieve the fair skine tone shown above. All the other colors were straight from the pp jars and mixed with just a touch of water. The green was probably mixed with just a drop or two of water. I made my pp mixture thicker because I wanted a more opaque look. The image above is one of Smeared Ink's "Elementals".

Today's post does double duty as it also fits the challenge over at Smudgy Antics this week. The theme is "Wicked Christmas" and we were challenged to make either a Gothic Christmas project or a Wicked Santa project...or any combination of the two.

Well...I think I've done enough wicked santa stuff this year. LOL! In case you didn't know or haven't been following my blog, Smeared Ink has an awesome Serial Killer Santa digi set.

I went with the Gothic Christmas Theme.

Sorry for the horrible cell phone pics.

I used Smeared Ink's digi stamp "Watchful Eye".

I colored him digitally and printed him out onto white cardstock 4 times.

You can't tell by the pics, but I fussy cut different elements of the skull for dimension.

I think I need a different glue or mini pop dots or something to make the layers more noticeable.

Does anyone have any tips for me on this?

I had a cardboard coffin left over from Halloween and used Christmas papers to decorate it.

I grunged it up a bit with sandpaper then distress inks and sealed it with modpodge.

I used a red velvet ribbon as an accent and to add a little contrast.

I attached my skull to the top and painted a coat of diamond glaze to add a bit of shine.

I know, you can't really tell with the pics.

This was a bit different for me as most of my work has been digital lately.

It felt good to get messy again...even if my dry, cracked hands disagree.

Ok...I know I've already used Serial Killer Santa once this season, but we were talking about our little group being a freak show on Monday and that totally inspired me to rid myself of any inhibitions and to stop worrying about what others think. Sometimes my art is offensive to some.

Most people don't understand my dark humor.

I'm okay with that.

Art is supposed to make people feel something.

If my art makes you laugh or cry or pisses you off then I've done my job.

Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge

This week's challenge at Smudgy Antics is "Inspired by a Book, Poem, or Film".

We are challenging you to create a project that fits the theme above using at least one stamped image. Anyone can play, but only those that use a Smeared Ink image are eligible for a prize. What? You don't own any Smeared Ink images? No problem. You can get a free image just by participating in any challenge on the Forum!

I was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "Annabel Lee"

Here is my creation:

I decided to do something a bit different today and go outside of my comfort zone. The rocks are part of Smeared Ink's Van Bayros digi. I singled out two of the rocks I colored and copied them and added them to the scene in a cluster. The cross tombstone can be bought as a single here or in the Build a Graveyard digi set. The person standing is actually one of Smeared Ink's werewolves from the "Part of the Pack" digi set. I colored it in to make a silhouette and erased some of the hair so it could look like a man rather than a lady. Poe himself is a rubber stamp soon to be made into a digital version. For my purposes, he was stamped, scanned, enlarged, enhanced, and faded so he would blend into the background clouds. Now that I look at it, I wish I would have faded Poe a bit more so that you coould barely make out his image. Eh. What's done is done. I used one of Smeared Ink's "Elementals" as well. She was pre-stamped and colored, then scanned, resized, and faded to blend into the sea. She will soon be available as a digi too, but if you want this set in rubber you'd better hurry up before the rubber is sold out. This set is a must in rubber IMHO. I love embossing these beauties! Okay, so basically all of my images are Smeared Ink except for the sky. That was a photo I took at dusk and I just had to use it for this project!

Happy Holidays, eh?

This whole project is digital.

It was colored and assembled in PSE8.

Most of my papers come from various artists at oscraps.

The site tends to have nice, affordable scrap sets in a wide range of styles.

The wall and concrete are made with digi papers.

I skewed the gray paper and added an up shadow (my term for it) to give the appearance of a wall meeting the street or walkway.

The exposed brick and garbage can are from Make It Crafty. I adore their background stamps!

The drunken elf, garland, sentiment, and Calypso the Rat are all Smeared Ink Images.

Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge - Mourning Glory

It's time for another Smudgy Antics weekly challenge. This week's theme is "Mourning Glory". Here is my take on the theme:

This first one is actualyl an old project I made, but I loved it so much I had to give it another look. I used "Holy City" from Smeared Ink and colored everything with copic markers. I don't remember my paper brand on this one.

My second project below uses Smeared Ink's "Death Cab" digi stamp set. I colored it in photoshop and erased the backgound. I then put it in this awesome winter scene from Itkupilli and added the "Forever" sentiment (also from the death cab set). I am so in love with this set! It is so elegant!

I made this project in honor of this week's Smudgy Antics Challenge (which will post sometime today). The theme for this week's challenge is "Dark and Gruesome". As a DT member, I do my best to give you guys and gals some inspiration for the challenge. What do you think? Is this dark and gruesome enough? If not, I'd be happy to refer you to some of my previous projects this month :)

I made this because I am obsessed with zombies. Also, unless they didn't go by the posted preview, the challenge this week at MM is "HDH113 -Heinously Haunted House". I don't have any real haunted house images and truth be told...after the 31 Days of Halloween...I was too darned tired to alter an existing birdhouse or any other item. I had grand plans...zombies coming out of windows, ghosts flying out of chimneys, and cobwebs and bats galore. Alas...I am pooped out! Instead, I used this silhouette of a haunted house and combined it with digi elements and the zombie stamps. I hope this counts for the challenge. I really like this project. It's not my best work, but it's fun!

The zombie gal was scanned to my pc (after coloring) and the background was removed with PSE8 which enabled me to add her to this scene.

Congratulations on the safe and happy arrival of baby Millie. You and hubs will make great parents!

I plan on getting some iron transfer paper and make a cute pj set for baby Millie with this image so little Millie can always be reminded how much her Mummy loves her. For those that do transfers of this type remember to reverse the image prior to printing otherwise the writing will come out backwords.

What can I say? I just felt like doing something a bit different today. The zombie head is from Smeared Ink's "Zombie Pinups" digi stamp set. The sentiment is a digi from Simply Betty Stamps. The background was a black and white image I found on the web and did some distressed digital coloring on it. The trick or treat bag is Kitty Designs on Oscraps. The other parts...legs and wings and such are from various Itkupilli collage sheets. Everything was put together in PSE8.

Here's an additional project. I know I should have saved this for another day, but I'm in a whimsical mood and I just really wanted to share my creation. I'm horrible like that! I just don't want to wait...I want to show my work right away! That's why I don't work ahead in the 31 days!

I used a Rick St. Dennis image in this. He is one of our generous sponsors. I colored witchy-poo in photoshop and added her to digital scrap elements from Kitty Designs on Oscraps.

This is a message from the emergency broadcast system. A project of severe cuteness has been sighted on Lady Brayton's blog.

This is NOT a test! I repeat, this is NOT a test!

I assure you I have not lost my mind...completely anyway. When that happens I will most likely be found painting rainbows with smiley faced clouds (not that there is anything wrong with that type of thing). I actually was inspired to do this project for the Rock n Rolla challenge on the Smeared and Smudged forum. The only fitting images I own are these two cuties from Simply Betty Stamps and I had the perfect digi scrap elements to go along with it (oscraps). Guess what? No digital coloring in today's project. I got inky!

I stamped the heart and key from Tattered Angels with versa mark and heat embossed the image with Zing embossing powder and my trusty heat tool. I then used a bunch of Distress inks to make the background. The bride of Frankenstein is a Strange Skin digi and is colored with copic makers and fussy cut. A few pop dots and some backing paper and I have a project.

Cute, huh?!

I used images from Smeared Ink's "Babies of the Damned" digi stamp set. They, and the brain rattle, were colored digitally in PSE8. Please note that I do not envison these as evil dead babies that went to hell. I see them as their own little species...innocent, cute, live demons that just happened to have a demon mommy and daddy. They like to play and hug just like regular babies and toddlers...they just happen to have a different dietary plan! Come on! Don't you just want to cuddle with them? Be careful though...the little one is teething! I added the demon cuties to a digi scrap page I created and put drop shadows around the kids for depth. The scrap kit was purchased at oscraps. I used a wicked devil digi from Delicious Doodles (say that 10 times fast)! I printed him on copic x-press it cardstock and colored him with copic markers. I used a zombie and sentiment from Smeared Ink's "Zombie Pinups" digi stamp set. She is colored digitally. I used the sketch from Smeared and Smudged's October Sketch Challenge, the color scheme from Smeared and Smudged's GDT challenge, and digi papers and elements. Some of my colors are slightly off and I added purple, but overall I think I came close. I flipped the sketch 90 degrees to the right. II will also be entering this card into HDH109 "Inner Workings". I think it's obvious that my take on the challenge was quite literal :) Can you see this zombies inner workings?

I almost didn't post this. I feel as though it's unfinished. Perhaps I need to make it a night scene or add fog and mist? I guess I'd better get out my photoshop for dummies book and figure out how to do it! The reason I did post this is because I think it's pretty neat. I like combining stamps with realistic items to see how well I can make them blend. The photo is one I took of a cemetery on Macinac Island, MI. The tombstones and cobblestone arch are from Smeared Ink's "Build a Graveyard" digi stamp set. I then added two of Simply Betty Stamps' Steampunk Halloween Collection to the scene.

Day 5 of 31 Days of Halloween with Smeared and Smudged

Today's project is a hybrid of sorts. The background is a rubber stamp from Smeared Ink's "Holy City" stamp set. It comes on a sheet of thick, high quality, deeply etched rubber that measures 8.5" x 11". I stamped this with Memento Ink on clay coated cardstock. I colored my image with copic markers, which I wouldn't really suggest on this type of cardstock. Dye inks would work much better. The alcohol inks don't absorb properly into the clay coating for blending. As you can see, the background turned out quite streaky, but I went with it. It was a bit of a happy mistake because it does look kind of drippy and cool.

I added Druscilla the Demon from Simply Betty Stamps' Steampunk Halloween collection to my scene. Like yesterday's project, she is colored digitally. The sizes of these two stamps did not match up. No problem! I simply scanned my colored image of the graveyard and enlarged it in photoshop and added Druscilla to the mix. Doesn't she look right at home in the graveyard? The pic was lacking a little something, so I added some light effects coming through the trees. I love technology! Your next stop on the hop is Jane's blog.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: PLEASE READ!!!

Betty's 17 year old son, Christian, has been diagnoised with Throat Cancer, which in itself is more than any parent/family/teenager should have to deal with, but to make matter's worse Betty must pay for some of Chritian's treatment up front. As an oncology nurse, I know how expensive surgeries, chemotherapy, and radition can cost, not to mention all of the CT scans and PET scans and bone scans needed just to make a diagnosis. Just a few treatments can bankrupt a family.

I was on Betty's design team for a year. Betty really is one of the nicest people I know! She's the sort of person that would do anything for anyone if they needed her help so I'm asking you to show Betty that people do care, and to help out in whatever way you can. I used one of Smeared Ink's "Creepy Li'l Grumpies" rubber stamps as well as a spider from Smeared Ink's "Killer Bo Peep's Build a Garden" rubber stamp set. The images are colored with copic markers and fussy cut. I used a frame from my cricut cartridge "Happy Hauntings", glued it to white cardstock, and used distress inks on it. I cut around the border of the frame and matted it to black and hot pink cardstock. Oh yea...the MS "drippy goo" punch made its appearance as well. You can't tell with the scan, but the grumpie and spider are popped up a bit for dimension. Thanks for looking!

It's here! It's here! It's finally here! Holy-crap on whole wheat toast! It's here...and I didn't get projects done ahead of time like I promised myself! D'oh! I must LOVE to punish myself! Why else would I wait until the last minute to make my projects?

What? You've never heard of the 31 Days of Halloween with Smeared and Smudged? Click HERE to find out the details on what this month long blog hop is about and to find out how you can win some cool prizes. Basically, a group of us bloggers will post a Halloween or Day of the Dead themed project using a stamped image somewhere in our projects daily for the 31 days of October to provide inspiration to our hoppers and lurkers. Although I hope to be posting my projects by 12:01 a.m. in my time zone, the hop projects are not required to be up until 9 a.m. Pacific time each day so if you are hopping along and some projects are not yet posted, be sure to head back to the blogs at the official hop time. HDH107 Appalling Apothecary using Smeared Ink images

Here is my project for HDH 107 Challenge: Appalling Apothecary:

I used a random dungeon background that I found online to borrow. Sorry...I don't remember where it was from. If I did, I'd definitely give the creator props! All the digi images are from Smeared Ink. I used the whole "Mad Science" digi set (sans the sentiments), the Calypso digi single, and the brain in the jar is from Smeared Ink's "Babies of the Damned" digi set. The random eyeballs are from the babies of the damned set also. I took the eyeball rattle for the demon tots and cut off the rattle part leaving an awesome eye to color. That's what I love about digis...you can modify them to suit your taste. I could erase a portion of the mad scientist to give him a crew cut if I wanted. The bottles, flasks, and test tubes in the set can be stretched, shrunk, or widened to fit any item of your choosing. I love the flexibility of digis!

Anywho...check out HDH...they have bad-azzed challenges every Monday.

Smeared and Smudged Member Blog Hop

It's that time again! Time for the Smeared and Smudged member blog hop.

The theme this month was Pieces and Parts. We were to use at least two stamp or digi images combined to make a "new" image or focal point on our projects.

Here is my creation:

I had so much fun with this! I took two of the werewolves from Smeared Ink's "Part of the Pack" digi stamp set and made a two headed werewolf! Sooooo creepy! The background is an ATC collage sheet from Itkupilli and the garbage can digi is from Make it Crafty Stamps. The sentiment is a digi from Smeared Ink's "Part of the Pack" stamp set.

I merged my images in photoshop and moved the heads around a bit until I got the placement I liked. I digitally colored the two headed werewolf as well as the garbage can and assembled my card in photoshop. It was a lot of work, but I love the end result!

Metal Mania with Smudgy Antics

The challenge this week on Smeared Ink's challenge blog, Smudgy Antics, is "Metal Mania". Go to the challenge blog for details.

Here is my take on the challenge:

I used Smeared Ink's "cracked heart" image from the "Heart Wings" digi stamp set. The image is colored with copic markers, trimmed, and mounted on actual metal tape, then trimmed again. Because the backing is metal, I was able to bend the wings a bit for extra depth. I took another strip of metal tape and embossed it with my cuttle bug and dripped random colors of alcohol ink onto it. Once dry, I mounted the metal tape onto black cardstock and further mounted my creation on additional cardstock.
