Changes on the Smudgy Antics Challenge Blog

Smudgy Antics has changed its criteria to win a prize!

This Giveaway for this challenge is
the ENTIRE Gothic Christmas Digi stamp set!!!

Here's a reminder about the rules.

The new rules will be in red.

*Each Monday morning a new challenge will be posted. It will contain that week's theme and prize information.

*To participate, you must make a project that fits the theme and add it to the post using the Inlinkz linky. Your link must take us directly to your project on a publicly accessible blog or website, or it will be disqualified - so please make sure you're linking to your actual post. It must be linked by midnight on the following Saturday, Pacific Time. This gives you six days to complete the challenge.

*For this week's challenge we are allowing 2 weeks so participants can enjoy the holiday and still be able to play along.  You must link by midnight on 12-31-11.

*Your project can be anything (card, scrapbook page, mixed media, altered or 3-D item, etc) as long as it is handmade and stamped somewhere with either a rubber or digital stamp. We have taken into consideration our digital artist fans and will be allowing all-digi projects. Feel free to think outside the box and have fun with your project! We are all about looking at things differently and look forward to the variety of projects and mediums we are sure to see.

***Every entry, no matter what stamped image is used, will now qualify for a prize. Encourage your crafty friends to come play with us!

*You may use any stamped image to win a the prize, however only projects using at least one Smeared Ink image will be eligible to win placement in the  coveted "Top Three".

*You can only enter and qualify for a prize if you are, or become, a follower of the blog. While you're at it, why not visit the forum as well for more challenges?

*The weekly winner will be chosen by random number and revealed on Sunday.

For this holiday challenge,
the winner (as well as the top three)
will be announced on January 1st, 2012.

Prizes will vary and may range from a free digi to a coupon to a blog badge.

12 Days of Christmas Smeared and Smudged Style - Day 10

Welcome to the 12 days of Christmas Smeared and Smudged Style.
Today is day 10.

You should have arrived here from Tori's blog.

Some of the bloggers have had to drop out of the hop so if you come to a dead end, please refer back to the blog roll of participating artists in the left sidebar.

We'll be posting every other day (odd days) until the "Big" day. The hop goes live at 9 am PST on each scheduled day.

Today's post does double duty as it also fits the challenge over at Smudgy Antics this week.  The theme is "Wicked Christmas" and we were challenged to make either a Gothic Christmas project or a Wicked Santa project...or any combination of the two.

Well...I think I've done enough wicked santa stuff this year.  LOL!  In case you didn't know or haven't been following my blog, Smeared Ink has an awesome Serial Killer Santa digi set.

Here is my offering for today:

I went with the Gothic Christmas Theme.

Sorry for the horrible cell phone pics.
I used Smeared Ink's digi stamp "Watchful Eye".
I colored him digitally and printed him out onto white cardstock 4 times.
You can't tell by the pics, but I fussy cut different elements of the skull for dimension.
I think I need a different glue or mini pop dots or something to make the layers more noticeable.
Does anyone have any tips for me on this?

I had a cardboard coffin left over from Halloween and used Christmas papers to decorate it.
I grunged it up a bit with sandpaper then distress inks and sealed it with modpodge.
I used a red velvet ribbon as an accent and to add a little contrast.
I attached my skull to the top and painted a coat of diamond glaze to add a bit of shine.
I know, you can't really tell with the pics.
This was a bit different for me as most of my work has been digital lately.
It felt good to get messy again...even if my dry, cracked hands disagree.

Your next stop on the hop is Paula's blog.

Cheers!

WARNING...THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL XMAS CARD

Ok...I know I've already used Serial Killer Santa once this season, but we were talking about our little group being a freak show on Monday and that totally inspired me to rid myself of any inhibitions and to stop worrying about what others think.  Sometimes my art is offensive to some.
Most people don't understand my dark humor.
I'm okay with that.
Art is supposed to make people feel something.
If my art makes you laugh or cry or pisses you off then I've done my job.

Details:
Background: Itkupilli.
I took an ATC background, copied and flipped it, and made one large room

Images from Smeared Ink's "Serial Killer Santa" set are as follows:
FYI...the Serial Killer Santa set is only $16.00 and there is a total of 17 images/sentiments including a NON-killer version of Santa and an empty gift bag so you can make either traditional or alternative cards.  That's less than $1.00 per image.  You can't beat that deal anywhere!

I also used images from Smeared Ink's "Gothic Christmas" Set:

Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge

This week's challenge at Smudgy Antics is "Inspired by a Book, Poem, or Film".
We are challenging you to create a project that fits the theme above using at least one stamped image. Anyone can play, but only those that use a Smeared Ink image are eligible for a prize.  What?  You don't own any Smeared Ink images?  No problem.  You can get a free image just by participating in any challenge on the Forum!

For full rules and inspiration from the DT, check out the challenge blog.

I was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "Annabel Lee"

Here is my creation:
I decided to do something a bit different today and go outside of my comfort zone.  The rocks are part of Smeared Ink's Van Bayros digi.  I singled out two of the rocks I colored and copied them and added them to the scene in a cluster.  The cross tombstone can be bought as a single here or in the Build a Graveyard digi set.  The person standing is actually one of Smeared Ink's werewolves from the "Part of the Pack" digi set.  I colored it in to make a silhouette and erased some of the hair so it could look like a man rather than a lady.  Poe himself is a rubber stamp soon to be made into a digital version.  For my purposes, he was stamped, scanned, enlarged, enhanced, and faded so he would blend into the background clouds.  Now that I look at it, I wish I would have faded Poe a bit more so that you coould barely make out his image.  Eh.  What's done is done.  I used one of Smeared Ink's "Elementals" as well.  She was pre-stamped and colored, then scanned, resized, and faded to blend into the sea.  She will soon be available as a digi too, but if you want this set in rubber you'd better hurry up before the rubber is sold out.  This set is a must in rubber IMHO.  I love embossing these beauties!   Okay, so basically all of my images are Smeared Ink except for the sky.  That was a photo I took at dusk and I just had to use it for this project!

Annabel Lee

It was many and many a year ago,

In a kingdom by the sea,

That a maiden there lived whom you may know

By the name of ANNABEL LEE;

And this maiden she lived with no other thought

Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,

In this kingdom by the sea;

But we loved with a love that was more than love-

I and my Annabel Lee;

With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven

Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,

In this kingdom by the sea,

A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling

My beautiful Annabel Lee;

So that her highborn kinsman came

And bore her away from me,

To shut her up in a sepulchre

In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,

Went envying her and me-

Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,

In this kingdom by the sea)

That the wind came out of the cloud by night,

Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love

Of those who were older than we-

Of many far wiser than we-

And neither the angels in heaven above,

Nor the demons down under the sea,

Can ever dissever my soul from the soul

Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams

Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes

Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side

Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,

In the sepulchre there by the sea,

In her tomb by the sounding sea.

Edgar Allan Poe

WARNING...THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL XMAS CARD

Happy Holidays, eh?
This whole project is digital.
It was colored and assembled in PSE8.
Most of my papers come from various artists at oscraps
The site tends to have nice, affordable scrap sets in a wide range of styles.
The wall and concrete are made with digi papers.
I skewed the gray paper and added an up shadow (my term for it) to give the appearance of a wall meeting the street or walkway.

The exposed brick and garbage can are from Make It Crafty.  I adore their background stamps!

Merry Fucking Christmas, Y'all!

We'd like to invite YOU to join in this year and participate in our 12 Days of Christmas Smeared and Smudged style event 2011. We're offering up a cool prize at the end, and know that you'll have a blast! How can you do this, you ask? Well, there are a couple of ways to participate this year, and below you find all the details.

12 Days Of Christmas Jolly Blogger (Blogger slots are filled and posted on my left sidebar)

The Rules: The project must be handmade by you and be posted by 9:00 am Pacific Time every scheduled day. The project must be stamped, with either a rubber stamp or digi stamp used somewhere, and must be either Christmas or Winter Holiday themed. To qualify for the prize drawing at the end of the month, you must post a project EVERY SCHEDULED DAY in December. If you miss a day, you will still qualify to receive a survival button, but will not qualify for the prize drawing.

Posting Schedule

Thursday December 1st

Saturday December 3rd (Smeared Ink Day)

Monday December 5th

Wednesday December 7th (Smeared Ink Day)

Friday December 9th

Thursday December 15th

Saturday December 17th (Smeared InkDay)

Monday December 19th

Now I bet you are wondering what Smeared Ink Day is! They are the days that we are challenging you to use only Smeared Ink Stamps on your projects! This is not mandatory, however you will be entered to win a prize from us for using only Smeared Ink stamps on those days!!!

12 Days of Christmas Merry Hopper   (There is still time to play along as a Merry Hopper!)

What You Have To Do:  Hop through each of the 12 Days Blogs that are participating and leave a comment on each project.

The Rules: You must leave a comment on EACH participating blog every scheduled day to qualify for the prize drawing. Your comment should be about the project or something related (ie-no "Here's my comment for today" or "I'm here!"...these types of comments won't count!) Prize Drawing At the end of the 12 days, we will be drawing for a fabulous prize pack from Smeared Ink that includes one each of our November Release digi sets! (Of course, you won't see them until the release, so pictures will come later in November/December).

Each person who successfully completes the 12 Days as either a Jolly Blogger or a Merry Hopper will receive one entry toward the prize drawing. If you successfully complete both, you will receive two entries. (Meaning if you are a Jolly Blogger and you comment on every blog every day, you have successfully completed both).
